- How many people do you need to play?
- Two at a minimum. There is no hard cap on a room, but six to eight is the sweet spot. Past about ten the shouting stops being fun. Everyone joins the same room with a four-letter code.
- Does everyone need their own phone?
- Yes, and that is the point. Hush is not a pass-the-phone game. Each player joins on their own phone, tablet or laptop, and each screen shows only what that player should see. The describer sees the card, nobody else does.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Three categories and more than 3,000 cards are free forever, with no account, no email address and no advertising. There is one optional purchase that opens the remaining eight categories.
- Does everyone at the table have to buy it?
- No. Only the person hosting the room needs the unlock. Everyone else joins with the code and plays the paid categories as guests, with nothing to buy and nothing to install.
- Is it a subscription?
- No. It is a single purchase of 6.99 USD, or the local equivalent. Nothing recurs, nothing expires, and there is no second invoice.
- Do I need to make an account?
- No. Pick a name at the door and play. There is no sign-up, no password and no email address to hand over.
- How long does a game take?
- Fifteen to thirty minutes, depending on how the host sets it up. A turn is 60, 90 or 120 seconds, and a round is one full lap of the table.
- Can we play over a video call?
- Yes. Everyone is on their own device already, so put the room code in the chat and play with the call as the room. Describing out loud works the same way.
- Does it work offline?
- No. Hush is a live game. Every player is in the same room in real time, so each device needs a connection. There is no offline or single-player mode.
- How many cards are there?
- Over 14,000 cards across eleven categories, each one a word plus the five words you may not say. Enough that a regular table stops meeting the same word twice.
- What ages is it for?
- It is written for adults and older teenagers. The humour is dry rather than blue, and there is no adult-rated content in the app. Younger players can play any category; the words are ordinary words.
- Is there an app, or does it run in a browser?
- Both. It runs in any modern browser, and native apps for iOS and Android are on the way. Whichever you use, everyone joins the same room with the same code.
